History

Trissur is a famous town of Kerala, which is well known for its temples and museums. It is also known as Tiruchur. This was

created by a generous local ruler named Raja Rama Varma, who was also known as Shakthan Thampuran.

The Trissur town actually revolves around the large Vadukkunathan temple built on a hillock almost at the centre of the town. The

several years old woodcarvings and exquisite wall paintings have made this temple very renowned all over the country. There are

various Hindu Gods and Goddesses placed in this temple. The Archaeological Survey of India is now trying to restore and revive

these paintings. The world famous Pooram festival is celebrated every year in the month of April- May this Vadukkunathan temple of Trissur town. During this festival, lots of fireworks can be seen.

There are three excellent museums in Trissur, which are located almost one after the other. These are the State Museum, the Art

Museum and the Archaeological Museum. The museum displays the long and eventful history of Kerala, the prehistoric beginnings, the Roman trade, the rule of the Cheras and other kings.
