Lohagarh Fort is one of the forts in Bharatpur district, Rajasthan that was built by the Jats. The fort was constructed by Maharaja Suraj Mal. Impregnable it provided a fabulous shelter against the foreign invasions. It is the probable reason why the fort is called Lohagarh, meaning made of iron. This fort contributed greatly in the victory of the Jats over the British Troops.

The other one faces south and is known as Chowburja as it is a four-pillared gate. This massive structure is one of the oft-visited places of interest in Bharatpur. Forts and fortresses, in a way, represent the martial status of a particular kingdom. This fort, too, represents the military forte of the Jats. There is a fundamental difference between this fort and the other forts of Rajasthan. Lohagarh Fort in Bharatpur is simply built. There is no sign of lavishness in this fort. The colossal look of the fort vies for its might.

As the travelers check out the fort they will come across a dried up moat. Previously it was filled with water as a strategy to resist enemy attack. The sandy battlements also helped in keeping their foes at bay. There are some interesting buildings within the fort-Mahal Khas, Kothi Khas, Kishori Mahal and others. Certain monuments inside the Lohagarh Fort were erected to mark the victory over the Mughals and British. These constructions comprise of Jawahar Burj, Fateh Burj and Moti Mahal.
